Guiyang K11 Art Village

K11 is committed to promoting the development and growth of China's contemporary art and culture. K11 introduced Urban Parts, an independent creative environment planned for young artists. In August 2010, a pilot programme was initiated in the Guiyang K11 Art Village, including the set-up of 10 different independent studios for artists. Future plans include a more spacious and permanent Art Village with better facilities in the Guiyang New World project. The goal of the K11 Art Village is to provide professional art studios and exhibition spaces, to offer exclusive use of the studio to local and foreign young artists’creative work for a fixed amount of time. Besides daily creative work, artists are encouraged to interact and exchange with the community and the public, through public exhibits and regular studio opening events, which can promote the all-rounded development of the local art environment.

The Urban Parts Contemporary Artists was led by the young artist Dong Zhong from Guizhou. Since its inception in 2006, the group has developed to become a well-known contemporary artist group in Guizhou. Currently, there are a total of 18 artists in the Guiyang Art Village. They continue to transcend the primitivism of mature Guizhou artists, whilst maintaining the individualism and art exploration when living as a group, so that the wider diversity in art can offer more varied possibilities in Chinese culture development.
